MDTC Chair’s Letter to the Editor

Actions Speak Louder Than Words!

Dear Editor:
We have been bombarded with political ads on the radio, television and in the print media with a lot of misinformation and empty promises from some candidates that are running for office.  However, I am a firm believer that actions speak louder than words.  For the last nine years I have had the honor and privilege of serving the residents of Marshfield as their Selectmen.  It is from this vantage point that I want to share some information with the voters about the commitment and dedication Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Murray have had for the Town of Marshfield.  When both of these individuals campaigned they reached out to locally elected officials and said that if elected they would be there to help and offer guidance.  They honored that commitment by participating in regional meetings and workshops that assisted elected officials in the areas of health insurance, ethics reform, pension reform and transportation reform.
When Marshfield had an emergency issue with the “narrows” leading out of our harbor Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Murray were there to guide the town through the process of securing the necessary state permits to allow the emergency dredging of this area so that our commercial fishing industry could be protected and the pleasure boaters could be safe.  When the Town of Marshfield was going through the permitting for our dredging of the inner harbor the Governor and Lt. Governor were once again there to help.  Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Murray made a number of visits to our Town and harbor.  Thanks to their involvement the harbor was successfully dredged and our commercial fishermen have a safe place to moor their boats and operate their businesses.
Finally, when it became apparent that Route 139 no longer served the needs of our residents and money was needed to widen this roadway, Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Murray were there with guidance and assistance, but more importantly, the Governor and Lt. Governor were able to secure the necessary funds for this project in the amount of $6 million. The funding will allow for commercial development in Enterprise Drive that will create jobs and foster economic opportunities for our residents.
These are tough times in government and for our families. We need proven leadership that has been tested.  Actions speak louder than words!
On November 2nd, I ask you to join me in re-electing Governor Patrick and Lt. Governor Murray, so that together we continue to move forward.
Thank You,
Michael A. Maresco
